The
Classified Bed & Breakfast Network Quebec, Canada (Réseau des Gîtes
Classifiés Québec Canada or RGCQC) is an association of officially
recognized traditional family type B&Bs (the equivalent of the chambres
d'hôtes or B&B in Europe) currently operating in Quebec and New
Brunswick.
It is managed and administered by the Association des Gîtes de la
Gaspésie, a not-for-profit association created in 1994 in the Gaspé penninsula.
From its inception, the RGCQC has had two principal goals :
- The
first is to guarantee its visitors top quality
lodging by the application of a classification system based on
the traditional B&B of five rooms or less.
This initiative was considered an innovation in Quebec for this
type of establishment in which the Association des Gîtes de la
Gaspésie played a pioneering role.
Our classification system was established with rigorous
standards, taking into account muncipal regulations, building
codes, town planning, the Fire Prevention Act, insurance criteria,
and provincial regulations governing lodging in Quebec.
It is supported by a questionnaire with 90 items covering three
areas: cleanliness and
security, comfort and
services, environment and
social activities.
The criteria concerning cleanliness and security are considered
basic and mandatory. The evaluation is calculated on a base of
100 points, of which 90 stem from the questionnaire, each question
being weighted with a certain number of points. The balance is
determined by the classification agents of the RGCQC and the final
assessment is validated by the Board of Directors who with the
Regional Representative determine the final rating on a scale
of 1 to 5
,
the symbol of our classification.
This rating system relates not only to customer satisfaction,
especially that of international visitors, but also to a particular
type of lodging, that is, the family type of 5 rooms or less.
Registered at the Canadian Trade Mark & Patents Office on April
5, 1995, our trade mark is owned by the Association des Gîtes
de la Gaspésie which governs and administers the RGCQC.
A survey of more than 10,000 clients has put the system to the
test, and the results have fine tuned it to everyone's satisfaction.
It is to its credit that the Association has invested more than
$175,000 of its own resources in the design and continued improvement
of the system.
- The
second goal is to promote our product
nationally and internationally. The RGCQC Internet site set
up in March 30, 1997, www.gites-classifies.qc.ca
is indexed on more than 2,800 search engines world wide.
At the most recent count more than 1,880,000 visitors and 40,061,498 "hits" were recorded, with an average of 17 pages read per visit,
a very respectable performance for a site specialising in lodging
in private homes.
To improve our visibility further and develop other potential
markets, the site was translated into English and German. As
part of our marketing, the RGCQC publishes annually 30,000 copies
of our updated brochure/map which is distributed in Quebec,
New Brunswick and abroad in partnership with Les Gites de France
(Normandie, France) and The Canadian Embassy in Paris.
We also have correspondants in France and Belgium who inform
individuals and groups about the network and the services we
provide. Since its founding through the local Association des
Gîtes de la Gaspésie, the Classified Bed & Breakfast Network
has grown to encompass 13 regions of Quebec as well as areas
of New Brunswick.
Our dependable classification system adapted to traditional family
type B&Bs has served our visitors well, becoming an emblem of
hospitality and quality lodging relative to price.
